1st IWWF World Wakesurf Championships Announced to be held In Hong Kong, China

The IWWF is pleased to announce that its 1st IWWF World Wakesurf Championships will be held in Hong Kong, China at Tai Po Waterfront Park from 3rd to 10th November 2024. The event will be organised by the Hong Kong, China Waterski Association (HKCWA) and will include individual age-group categories and a team overall category. There will be a US$30,000.00 cash purse for the Open Men & Women’s skim and surf categories.
Wakesurf events have been organised in Hong Kong by the HKCWSA since 2017 such as the annual IWWF Wakefest Hong Kong which has an average participation of 160 athletes annually.
“Hong Kong is the ideal host for our very first IWWF World Wakesurf Championships, with this sports discipline being so popular there with good support from the industry and commercial sponsors, not to mention the rest of Asia and other parts of the world. The athletes will enjoy the experience of competing in this inaugural event wearing their respective country’s colours and also visiting Hong Kong ”, said Jose Antonio Perez Priego, President IWWF.
“We are very excited to welcome wakesurf athletes and supporters from all over the world and we will do our utmost best to be the very best host during their stay in Hong Kong”, said Michael Chow, President of HKCWA. The International World Games Association (IWGA) has announced that wakesurfing will be included in The World Games 2025 to be held in Chengdu China, and the 2024 IWWF World Wakesurf Championships will be a classification event to select the athletes. An information bulletin will be circulated to Federations in due course.
